Title: Toward a Complete Census of Stars in Upper Scorpius

Abstract: The Upper Scorpius OB association contains the largest population of stars and brown dwarfs (likely $>$2000) among the nearest and youngest clusters and associations ($taulesssim10$~Myr, $dlesssim150$~pc). As a result, it offers the best available statistical constraints on a variety of properties of young stars and brown dwarfs (e.g., IMF, binary fraction, disk fraction). The recent data releases from {it Gaia} and Pan-STARRS1 combined with previous data from 2MASS, UKIDSS, and {it WISE} have now made it possible to perform a thorough census of the members of Upper Sco. We have used parallaxes, proper motions, and color-magnitude diagrams measured with those databases to identify candidate members of the association down to $sim$0.005-0.01~$M_odot$. During the 2.5 usable nights in a 6-night run with COSMOS in 2019A, we obtained spectra of 109 candidates at stellar masses in the central area of Upper Sco to confirm their youth (and hence membership) and to measure their spectral types, 80 of which were confirmed as members. We propose to obtain COSMOS spectra of the remaining $sim$140 candidates in that sample. We are also submitting proposals to Gemini and the IRTF for IR spectroscopy of the fainter, less massive candidates.
