Title: The DECam eROSITA Survey (DeROSITAS)

Abstract: The eROSITA X--ray telescope was launched on July 13, 2019, beginning full scientific operations on Oct 15th. During the ongoing 4 year all-sky survey phase, eROSITA will identify $sim 10^5$ galaxy clusters more massive than 10$^{rm 14}$ M$_odot$ and $sim 3times 10^6$ AGN. We request 13.5 nights in 2020B to provide optical imaging of the German eROSITA extragalactic sky. Reaching depths of $m^*+1$ for redshift $zsim1$ cluster red-sequence galaxies, this data will enable the optical confirmation and photometric redshift estimation of $sim 5times10^4$ clusters and the identification of .5times10^6$ AGN. With a depth of $g=22.7$, $r=23.0$, $i=23.0$, $z=22.3$ at 10$sigma$, we will be able to identify the optical counterparts of the clusters and compute robust cluster redshifts. The completed DECam eROSITA Survey will reduce the uncertainties on the Dark Energy equation of state parameters to $sigma_wsimeq0.10$, for eROSITA clusters alone. With the proposed observations we will study (1) the cluster baryon content and its trends for mass and redshift and (2) the cluster galaxy populations, characterizing the faint end of the cluster luminosity function (at $m^*+2$) as a function of the cluster dynamical state, as a function of redshift and mass up to $zsim0.9$. In addition to the proposed observations we will provide (1) targets for approved spectroscopic surveys of eROSITA sources (e.g., 4MOST and SDSS-V), (2) high quality templates for Gravitational Wave progenitor searches, and (3) an initial epoch for the LSST sky survey.
